Churchill Estates Douro (Portugal) 2007 (Majestic), #10.99

A blend of 40% Touriga Nacional, 30% Tinta Franca, 20% Tinta Roriz. Excellent modern Douro table wine from from the Churchill port house. Quite accessible and forward fruit in style. Deep purple colour, lovely blackcurrant nose. Juicy black fruits, spicy and forward. Smooth and rounded - possibly not as good as the 2006 but excellent value for money. Probably needs another year to be at its peak.

Secano Estate Leyda Valley (Chile) Sauvignon Gris 2009 (M&S), £7.99

A Decanter award-winner, this wine was a struggle to find at M&S in London - all the shelves were stripped!
Pale straw colour, excellent minerally nose, flinty and sharp. Hint of lychee and pineapple. Lovely balance - very young but nice acid and forward fruit. Good finish - incredible value for money - a very interesting grape variety that deserves a renaissance............
